Green Teams Workshop
Karen Foust, Sara Hodgkins, Kathy Kellison. Katie Stein, and June Zellers attended an all-day workshop at the Wolfe’s Neck Center for Agriculture and the Environment in Freeport on June 21st. It was sponsored by the BTS Center for Spirituality in a Climate Changed World.
The keynote speaker discussed the projected impacts in Maine of human climate migration, including competition for housing and pressure for expanded services. Participants discussed what some other Maine churches are doing to respond to climate change and to preserve endangered areas and beings. The afternoon included participation in earth-centered rituals and practice.
Our attendees learned there are many ways that churches can participate in the climate crisis response. Watch for opportunities here at UUCC this fall. We might solidify our own ‘Green Team’. We could make use of more of the Green Sanctuary materials from the UUA. We might consider climate crisis response in all of our existing social justice efforts.
