We have a vibrant Small Group Ministry! Groups are comprised of up to 10 people who meet once or twice a month. Group members have developed new and deeper connections with one another and have found a place for religious exploration and spiritual growth, all while expanding the ministry of the congregation.
Each session begins with opening words, followed by an opportunity for group members to check-in about significant life events that have occurred since the previous gathering. Most of the time is spent discussing the topic for the session, using an outline provided by our Topics committee or from the Small Group Ministry Network.
The groups identify a facilitator of each session to oversee the process of the group and someone to serve as liaison to the congregation.
Some groups meet in members’ homes and some meet at the church. Early in the life of a group, a covenant is created to define right relationships within the group, covering such areas as attendance, confidentiality, staying focused on the topic, how to listen during the check-in, and whether or not to serve food.
Our first groups were begun in 1999 and some of those are still going, along with groups of shorter duration.
People join groups when they become interested, and in the past some have left a group for a while and then opted to return. All are welcome. New groups are formed when a leader is trained and ready and we have enough people to create a group.
