Finances

Financial resources for the activities and work of UUCC come from a variety of sources, especially through Pledges, Fundraising, and Special Funds.

Pledging

The greatest portion of the cost is covered by our Sunday offerings and annual pledges towards the program budget. Members and friends make an annual pledge as part of membership and commitment at UUCC. We pledge based on the fiscal year from July 1 - June 30. The pledge campaign begins in the spring for the coming year, so while many of us are still making contributions on the current year, we are asked to forecast our pledge for the next year. We need this data to plan the Program Budget for the coming year.

Pledge payments can be mailed or placed in the offering plate during Sunday service. You can schedule payments over the year. Cash should never be mailed, but it should be put in an envelope clearly marked with PLEDGE and your full name before you place it in the offering plate. When using a check, note PLEDGE under Memo on the check.  In the spring and summer, please indicate which fiscal year the your pledge is for (for instance, “Pledge 2011-12”), so it can be property credited.

Fundraising

Many endeavors and individual efforts add up to successful Fundraising!

Last year a total of $6,998 was made through Fundraising activities. Ten percent of this amount has been given to the Faith in Action Committee to be used for local charities.  A Fundraising event is typically planned for each month and includes such things as  a Dessert Theater, Chowder Luncheon, Inside/Outside Yard Sale, November Pie Sale,  Craft Fair, Service Auction,  Vegetarian Dinner, Concert, and a unique Whoopie Pie Festival, organized by a member and his Men’s Group. With few exceptions, the events are widely publicized and are open to the public.

Small Fundraising Events, organized and hosted by individual church members are strongly encouraged.  These consist of a meal and activity chosen by the host(s) and have included a kayak outing and luncheon, a French dinner and a Georgian Supra, followed by a  coordinated film.  These small events are planned for six to twelve people whose reservation cost is donated to the church.  The Fundraising Committee Chairs take care of the publicity but are otherwise not involved.

There are several on-going activities that result in a steady flow of revenue:  The CLYNK program (collection of bottle deposits), the sale of books in the Fellowship Hall, and Hannah’s Boutique are examples of these.  Individual church members have contributed to Fundraising by selling pecans, handmade cards, handspun yarn, and their own books in the Fellowship Hall during Fellowship Hour.

The UUCC Cookbook will soon be ready to sell and that will be another source of income.

Specific Funds: We have several investment accounts at UUCC. The Endowment Account is invested for a consistent annual distribution to be used for church operating expenses and long-term appreciation. The Future Facilities Account developed in the early 1990’s related to property as the two previous congregations consolidated to form UUCC, and provides some funding for the ongoing work of the Buildings and Grounds Committee.

Getting Involved:

It is critical to remember that the expenses of the congregation are year-round. We can make ensure that our pledges are paid throughout the year.

Individuals and groups are encouraged to organize Small Fundraising Activities that are coordinated and supported through the Fundraising Committee. The number of people who are volunteering has increased and we hope that this continues. How have you been involved? What ideas do you have for Fundraising? Participate, help publicize, and support these activities.

Consider UUCC in wills and Planned Giving arrangements. This helps to ensure the presence of Unitarian Universalism in Augusta.
